Cold Brew Bourbon Recipe For Hot Summer Nights
Cold brew was an instant hit, thanks to its smooth and less acidic profile, paired with its versatility.
At times I like it pure, other times I add milk or orange slices, and then there are moments when I like to sip on some cold brew bourbon. Today, I’ll show you how to whip up this very easy coffee cocktail at home.
What is Cold Brew Bourbon?
Cold brew bourbon is exactly what its name suggests – it’s a cocktail with cold brew coffee and bourbon as its main ingredients.
Cold brew gained popularity in recent years for its unique brewing method that results in a cup of coffee with less bitterness and acidity. It involves steeping coarsely ground coffee beans in cold or room-temperature water for an extended period.
It’s not clear who first thought that mixing cold brew and bourbon is a good idea (and it is!), but one thing is for sure: It’s one of the best ways to enjoy coffee and whiskey in one sitting.
Personally, I like sipping on mine during the summer, when I crave a refreshing drink that comes with some caffeine and a sweet bourbon buzz.
Ingredients & Equipment for Cold Brew Bourbon
Here are the things you need to prepare before we go ahead with this cold brew bourbon recipe:
- Shaker: Used to mix the ingredients together. If you don’t have one, you can use a mason jar or tumbler with a lid but be careful as these may slip your hands more easily.
- Ice cubes: Added to the shaker for a chilled drink.
- 120 ml cold brew coffee: The coffee base of the drink. Here is my favorite cold brew recipe.
- 25 ml bourbon: The alcohol base of your cold brew bourbon. This can be adjusted according to your preference on how strong you want the alcohol to be.
- 60 ml whole milk: Adds creaminess to the drink. You can also add or reduce this to fit your taste.
- 1 tbsp maple syrup: Add just a little bit to enhance the flavors.
Step-by-Step Recipe for Making Cold Brew Bourbon
Cold brewing is one of the easiest ways to make coffee (it’s mostly a waiting game), and extending it into a cold brew bourbon is just as easy. Just follow these steps:
1. In a shaker, combine the ice, cold brew coffee and bourbon.
- Start by putting ice cubes in the shaker and pouring the cold brew coffee and bourbon.
- You can buy cold brew from a cafe or grocery, but I highly recommend making one beforehand. The recipe I gave you is for cold brew concentrate, but you’ll want to dilute that 1:1 for this recipe.
2. Seal off the shaker and give it a good shake.
- Close the shaker or mason jar securely and shake well.
- Your cold brew bourbon should have a slightly foamy texture after shaking.
3. Pour into a glass.
- Transfer the mixture from the shaker to the glass.
4. Add the milk and maple syrup.
- Slowly add the milk to the mixture. You can also use cream if you fancy a creamier drink.
- Drizzle the maple syrup last.
What cup should I serve a cold brew bourbon in?
The cold brew bourbon is an iced drink, so any glass that can hold about 8 to 12 oz of liquid will work.
Barista Tips for Making Cold Brew Bourbon
Here are additional tips to up your cold brew bourbon:
- Add caramel: Drizzle some caramel on top of your cold brew bourbon if you enjoy its sweet flavor.
- Ground nutmeg is another great topping: If you enjoy nuttiness, you can also dust the top of your drink with ground nutmeg.

Notes
Cold brew bourbon brings together the best of bourbon whiskey and cold brew coffee. It’s one of the reasons why I love my cold brew, which I can make in larger batches (it lasts long in the fridge) and consume throughout the next few days in different ways.
So don’t miss out and give this coffee cocktail a try on the first weekend of the summer.
